C2PA containers vs SynthID — what a metadata tool can do
Content Credentials containers live in file bytes; SynthID-style marks live in pixels. Know the difference before you clean.
Creators often mix up C2PA / Content Credentials with SynthID. They solve related trust problems but live in different layers of a file.
C2PA / Content Credentials
Often stored as JUMBF-style containers (for example JPEG APP11 or PNG caBX/jumb chunks). A local cleaner can detect and strip those containers from the copy you hold. That is marker/container work — not full cryptographic claim validation with c2pa-js.
SynthID and pixel watermarks
SynthID-style signals are typically learned into pixels. Stripping EXIF or C2PA containers does not remove them. We publish an explainer at /learn/synthid and we do not offer a SynthID remover.
Practical workflow
- Detect for EXIF, GPS, AI tags, and C2PA containers.
- Clean locally if you want those fields gone from your file.
- Assume platforms may still use other signals for labeling.
Privacy hygiene for the file you control — not a bypass for detection systems.

Why clean EXIF before you share photos
GPS, camera serials, and software tags often hitchhike in JPEG EXIF. Strip them locally before social or marketplace uploads.
